HOUSTON, TX – June 22, 2009 – PowerLung, a top manufacturer of products to help people train their lungs to breathe more air, was named one of the Most Promising Life Science Companies at the 8th Annual Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship Life Science Venture Forum in Houston last week. PowerLung showcased the company before an audience of more than 400 attendees, including investors, venture capitalists, industry representatives, business leaders, advisors/mentors, service providers, and entrepreneurs.
“We were excited to attend again this year, and thrilled to be named ‘most promising’ for the second straight year,” said Carolyn Morse, CEO, PowerLung. “It’s a strong validation that we’re doing the right things in growing this company and serving our customers while making their lives better in the process. I’m also very happy to have the opportunity to speak to investors who want to know more about what we are doing at PowerLung.”
The one-day event ended with the announcement of the most promising Life Science companies which were chosen from almost 35 competitors and judged by the Rice Alliance Information Technology Advisory Board. The companies presented an elevator pitch to attendees and were judged solely on the messaging they communicated during that brief 90 seconds. The elevator pitch process helps participating companies practice giving a quick pitch to potential investors who often times only have a short amount of time.
Rice Alliance Director Brad Burke said, “Every year the quality of companies improves. Many of the companies at this year’s event have developed prototypes, obtained proven results and are on their second round of funding. This makes them more appealing to investors, who have also expressed appreciation for the quality of the companies.”
The Forum was supported by Baker Botts, LLP, Essex Woodlands Health Ventures, Winstead Attorneys and Oracle with media sponsors Houston Business Journal and the BusinessMakers Radio Show. Elevator pitches from the competition can be heard at www.businessmakersradioshow.com starting June 20, 2009.
