We offer the PowerLung Repair/Refurbish Service to satisfy the occasional need for replacement parts other than mouthpieces. We know things happen which may require our customers to need replacement parts; for example, moving; or, it came apart and now I can’t find a piece; or, my child took it apart; or my dog chewed on it. The PowerLung Repair/Refurbish Service assures customers receive the most current parts for their model regardless of when the customer purchased the product or any changes PowerLung has made to parts since the purchase.

Visit the Repair/Refurbish Service page for additional information and instructions.

  2. Terry Bird Says:

how much does the product cost

    Ask PowerLung Reply:

PowerLung offers different models of its products to allow users to customize their breathing training and respiratory muscle strengthening and training to their personal needs. Each of these models is priced differently and the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is shown on each model page in the Product Specifications section in the bottom part of each information page for a PowerLung model. For example, here is a link to the PowerLung Active Series BreatheAir page and here is a link to the PowerLung Performer Series P617B page. Simply scroll down to the Product Specifications section and the MSRP is on the right hand side.

The price you see is the suggested retail price and as the manufacturer of the product we want to support our retailers in shops and online who sell our product so that is the only price we list. We encourage you to shop with our retailers who may have different prices or special offers on PowerLung products. Here is a link to help you find a store near you.

i have lung cancer my breathing is okay but will this machine be okay for me to use to build my lungs back up

    Ask PowerLung Reply:

PowerLung is designed and registered with the FDA as exercise equipment to train deep breathing and to strengthen and train the muscles used for inhaling and exhaling. PowerLung will help you learn inhale as deeply as possible and also learn to exhale as completely as possible. As you do this, you will also be making stronger the muscles used to help you breathe. This type of training also helps your breathing (respiratory) muscles remember to breathe deeply.

PowerLung is not like any other product currently available for two reasons:

    1. It provides independently adjustable training for inhale and exhale in the same breath. We have patent-protected this unique ability.
    2. It never makes an opening smaller to restrict the amount of air you receive to create resistance. The independently adjustable load cells create a progressive resistance you can easily adjust as your muscles, and your breathing, become stronger.

As with any exercise program, you should consult your physician before beginning the program. If you would like information for your physician, here are links to documents you can download and print for your physician or simply send them the links. Please let your physician know, we are happy to answer any specific questions he or she may have.

    1. This white paper provides a description of the method, progressive threshold resistance, PowerLung uses for its training. While it describes the benefits for athletes, all of us have muscles that work in the same manner and can receive the benefits of this type of training for the muscles we use for breathing.
    2. This white paper provides a discussion, with citations for other studies, of the importance of training your breathing, respiratory, muscles for inhaling and exhaling.
    3. This white paper provides information for the different ways a healthcare professional may wish to recommend patients use PowerLung.
    4. This study provides excellent information on the impact to a person’s breathing of various conditions and activities and then describes the benefits subjects in this study received by using PowerLung.

Please remember, PowerLung is exercise equipment. It is not designed to diagnose, treat, or cure any disease.

  4. Betty Homa Says:

Hi - my husband lost a lung several years ago due to cancer - would the power lung be helpful and okay for him to use?

    Thanks

    Ask PowerLung Reply:

There are PowerLung customers who have had a lung removed or have had lung transplants. You can find detailed information here on how PowerLung works to help people strengthen the muscles they use in breathing and therefore breathe deeper to get more air per breath.

  5. H. Mercado Says:

Does the power lung come with extra mouth pieces? Where can I buy them?
A speedy answer will be most appreciative. Thanks.

    Ask PowerLung Reply:

The question you posed is a common one for people wishing to share PowerLung and the answer to that question is on our FAQ in the “Common Questions” Section:

“Because you are breathing through the PowerLung for inhale and exhale, it is NEVER recommended to share a single PowerLung model for health reasons, just as your family or team would not use one toothbrush.”

An additional reason is also that sharing does not allow regular use of PowerLung is composed of 3 sets of 10 breaths 2 times a day which takes about 5 minutes each time. Further, it does not allow for the program to be customized to the individual as PowerLung is designed to provide and therefore it cannot be easily integrated into an individual training, exercise or practice program to allow for the full benefits of PowerLung.

    Ask PowerLung Reply:

While PowerLung itself has not been specifically tested on emphysema sufferers, there are physicians who have recommended PowerLung to their patients with emphysema. And, many of our customers have advised us of beneficial results in their lives after using the PowerLung. As with any exercise program, you should consult your physician before beginning the program. If you would like information for your physician, here are links to documents you can download and print for your physician or simply send them the links. 8. Chris Mothersole Says:

I currently own a PowerLung: Model P617B for Musicians, but is there a time that it would be recommended to switch to the T343A model (for example, if I got up to a certain resistance setting), since it would seem like the T343A would provide a wider range of resistance? I am already at the max setting for the exhale and between 3 and 4 on the inhale dial.
    Thanks, Chris Mothersole

    Ask PowerLung Reply:

We are not sure if you are using the PowerLung Performer Series P617B only in the 3 sets of 10 breaths 2 times each day or if you have added it to other parts of your performance practice or rehearsal. Instead of advancing to the next model, you may want to consider using the model you have in different ways to assist you in other areas of your playing.

In the book, “Breathing for Performance: A Guide for Wind and Voice Musicians,” Mark Boren provides a number of advanced exercises that work on different parts of breathing specific to breathing musicians and vocalists.

Also, at this point, you could also reduce the settings on your PowerLung to those that more closely match your instrument and use it for technique practice. This is especially useful when you have a particular piece or phrase that is proving somewhat difficult to “master” in terms of breathing for your phrasing. Many professors and teachers use this with their students: Reduce the settings of the PowerLung to match your instrument, then “play the phrase” on your PowerLung. This way you will master the requirements for the air and hear the air required to perform the phrase. It also allows you to focus entirely on the breathing and air you will require; once that is in place the sounds will be more natural and relaxed. Next, return to your instrument and play the phrase.
